Limber Pine forms the lower timberline of mountain forests along
much of the eastern slopes of the Rockies, and also in the mountains
in parts of the Southwest. At maturity, it is a thick-trunked tree
with a broad, rounded crown and long, spreading limbs. |

Foliage: needles up to three inches long, slightly
twisted and in bundles of five
Fruit: cones oval, three to five inches long
Soil: coarse, well drained soils, intolerant of flooding
Water: low
Sun: full
Problems: May acquire white pine blister rust (a
fungus), which requires currant shrubs in the other part of its life
cycle.
Comments: Tolerates windy
conditions, also heavy snow loads.
Street Tree: limited use due to bushy shape |
